Dal Powder (Parrupu podi)

This basic powder is high in protein low in fat but still toothsome

Skill level : easy

Ingredients :
1 ts oil(optional)
1 c toordal
1/4 c urad dal
2 red chilies (you can adjust spiciness according to your taste)
salt as needed

1. Roast toordal with or without oil very light brown at medium low heat.
2. Then add urad dal peppercorns and coriander seeds.
3. When it start releasing aroma (goldenish brown) add turmeric and chili and turn the heat off.
4. Keep roasting otherwise it may burn since pot will be hot.
5. When cools down add salt as desired and grind it into coarse powder.
Some people like it fine but I feel course gives more texture and is fragrant.
6. Store in airtight container.

=> For multiplying recipe you don't need extra oil unless it's very large batch.
